Today, we’re going to talk about the phrasal verb turn up.
Imagine you’re planning a get-together with friends. You send out invites, prepare some snacks, and wait for your friends to arrive. Then, one by one, they start to ‘turn up‘. In this context, turn up means to arrive or appear somewhere. Just like your friends popping into your party, this phrasal verb shows up in various situations in English.
Turn up has another trick up its sleeve. It can also mean to find something that was lost. Remember that time you were searching high and low for your keys, and they finally turned up under a pile of papers? That’s ‘turn up’ in action, solving mysteries in your daily life.
Exercise Time!
Let’s put this into practice. Can you create a sentence using ‘turn up’ in both meanings? Let me know in class!
